Live, Work & Play In Northeastern Texas
The area was settled during the 1830s. A settlement existed before 1841 that was founded either by a group of Acadians or by Captain London Daingerfield who fought the Indians at the "Daingerfield Spring" in the 1830s. Daingerfield is the fourth oldest town in Texas and the oldest in Morris County.

Daingerfield, the county seat of Morris County since 1875, was originally the seat of the former Paschal County (presently the counties of Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, Morris, Cass and part of Marion) during 1841 and 1842.
The town of Naples is 12 miles northeast of Daingerfield, and developed around a station on the Texas and St. Louis Railway, which was built in 1880. Most of the original merchants had moved their stores from Wheatville, which lay about 3 miles north. The new town was originally
called Belden, but when the post office was moved there, it was named Station Belden, apparently because postal officials were concerned that "Belden" would be confused with Belton in Bell County.

The town quickly became an important
shipping point and supply center. In 1895 residents submitted a list of names to the post office, and Naples was selected as the new town name. During the early 1900s lumber was an important local industry, and a narrow-gauge railroad was constructed to haul hardwood logs to the sawmills. The town was incorporated in 1919.
First an old Indian settlement, Omaha was established in the late 1870s when the St. Louis, Arkansas and Texas railroad went through. Originally called Morris Town, its history dates back to 1874 and the purchase of a tract of land by Thompson Morris. Legend states that one of the founders of the so-called Morris Town was drinking while traveling by
stagecoach. When the driver insisted he get off, he stepped out, liked what he saw, and settled in that part of the country. Later he sent for his wife and family and established Morris Town. When the town got a post office, the people changed the town's name to Gavett. Several years later, the name was changed to Omaha.
